Hello there. This is my very first critique, so I am a little nervous about how I form my words. I know I have many things to learn about photography and I'm not perfect, but I thought it would be good experience giving an opinion to such a wonderful piece of photography! "The Darkside" can be interpreted in many ways, so I'll state what I think about it.

First of all, I really admire the lighting in this piece. It shows the true feelings of this. The feelings I get from this are "anxiousness" "choice-making" and "waiting". I'll explain why I see these feelings.

When I look at the picture, I see that you are almost completely immersed into the light, however, you are facing the long, dark hallway. Your pose shows that maybe you are waiting for something, perhaps news? Your facial expression is also in the perfect mood-set for seeming a little bit anxious or nervous about something. Since you are facing the darkness, do you have a feeling about learning something bad? Perhaps you are making a choice. You are sitting near the light, yet facing darkness. Are you pulled between a good choice or a bad choice? Maybe because you are in between the two, you are not sure which choice is good or bad. So, you sit there, thinking, "What choice will I make? Will I face the dark, or will I face the light?" I hope that makes sense.

I really do love this piece because I find it original. The technique is wonderful, as I said with the lighting, body language and expressions. I love the way you positioned the camera facing you, facing the darkness with the light shedding from behind you. It gives a great impact. I also love how simple your outfit is. It's not too distracting so the viewer can focus more on what lies beyond the subject.

Overall, "The Darkside" is such a wonderful piece and I really look forward to seeing more photography from you. If you have any questions about the critique, please feel free to ask me and I'll be more than happy to talk with you.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with everyone on dA!
